Terror of Abstract Shapes: The Earth Revenge

It has been quiet for a long time - I didnt have time to develop games and write, but since I have started polyphasic sleeping (everyman) in february, I have much more time and I keenly spend some of it working on my games. I will probably write a thing or two about polyphasic later on, but now I will focus on the current game itself.


Terror of Abstract Shapes: The Earth Revenge is an abstract RTS game similiar in looks to my previous released project (RotC). The gameplay, however, is completely different. Your task is to lead a rebellion of geometric shapes against world dominating house of Blockafellers. Toaster is an extremely fast paced game, You will finish most games in max 4 or 5 minutes and most often it will be much shorter.



The controls are very simple. You cannot control individual units, You can only order all of units to attack or defend, so basically either all Your units are going after Your foes, or all are protecting Your base. You have more control over the buildings though, just like in ordinary RTS You can place structures wherever and whenever You want. You can even put a turret right in the middle of Your enemies base (and he can do opposite to). Some structures produce units, some earn cash, some guard, etc, etc, this is standard.


The video is from an early alpha phase, the game will obviously feature sound and music.

The game is currently in alpha phase and I plan on releasing it on 30.04.2011. It will be completely free to play. By the release it will be a, hopefully, stable single player game. Later on I plan on adding multiplayer via web. And the game is a JAVA game played using web browser.

Updates

I got first feedbacks about RoC.

You can find an updated version now on http://hugeowl.com. You can use WSAD for moving around (or stay with arrowkeys if You like) and use C for firing both weapons at once.

First Post

Hello,
This is Hugeowl, I am an indie games developer. I will post info about progress of my games in this blog.

My first released game is 'The Revenge Of The Curse Of The Galactic Empire'. The game is a space shooter inspired by Robotron, an old 8bit game.



The video shows the basic gameplay. The game is quite dynamic and has a wide range of varied weapons and enemies that You can discover. It features an online leaderboard.

You can play the game in Your browser and find more about it on its site. There are still a few things to be done, namely to implement additional weapons and even more foes plus create a proper title screen as the current one is a placeholder.

I think I will spend at least two months more on tweaking and fixing some arising issues and in the meantime I will start developing another small (100-150 mandays of work) project. I try to be careful with my current and future projects, because I've wasted tons of time overdesigning and rewriting games (mostly roguelikes) 894023 times because of some 'cool' features that I havent thought of before.
